A Cambridge-based company has developed technology that could change the way users conduct online searches.
LingoMotors has 19 pending patents on software that it says will enable search engines to recognize sentences rather than keywords.
The product, TurboSearch, conducts searches by picking apart each word in a search sentence.
For example if a user enters "French restaurants with nonsmoking sections" or "a V-neck red cashmere sweater with short sleeves," TurboSearch will find listings that match more precisely what the user is searching for.
The technology can be used with major search engines such as Yahoo.com or for e-commerce Web sites and online publications.
Reuters Inc., a news and information group, will use LingoMotors' technology internally. Also, Reuters Greenhouse Fund in London was an investor in the company's latest round of $16 million, although LingoMotors would not disclose the specific amount.
