Edwin L. Boardman, CLU, spends most of his time on the road visiting companies outside the United States. He provides marketing management Consulting services through the auspices of LIMRA International. These services include marketing organization design, persistency and conservation enhancement, management development, and operational planning.
Boardman served four years as Chairman of the Board of LIMRA Europe and headed up LIMRA's international operations before retiring and working with LIMRA on a consulting basis. He is a graduate of Cornell University. Recently, we sat down with Boardman to talk to him about the work he is doing for LIMRA constituency in developing countries.
MF: When you talk about your international activities, you tend to talk about your work with companies in developing countries. Why is that?
EB: I suppose that's because working with companies in countries that are already developed is pretty much what we've been doing for years in the United States and Canada. It's necessary and important but everyone has heard about it. And while it's exciting and new to the company involved, there isn't much difference from one country to another. It's a different story in a developing country when you're helping to get the industry going somewhere where life insurance is a new and exciting concept.
MF: How do you help a company in a developing country? Isn't it just a matter of time before it gets established and accepted?
EB: Sure, but we help to...
