Austin-based Louis Shanks of Texas Inc. is entering the Dallas market with its largest store to date.
Construction will begin later this year on a freestanding furniture store at State Highway 121 and the North Dallas Tollway in Frisco. It's scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2002.
At 200,000 square feet, the newest Louis Shanks store will offer 130,000 square feet of showrooms, 10,000 square feet of offices and 60,000 square feet of warehouse space.
"It's the biggest store in our system," says Amor Forwood, president of the 56-year-old furniture retailer. "We think we're going to do as much business out of that store as we do out of all three of our stores in Houston."
The new store will increase the company's overall square footage by nearly 40 percent. That makes Louis Shanks the state's largest retail dealer of higher-end furniture, Forwood says.
The new store will achieve the company's goal of becoming a regional retailer serving the state's major markets.
