Luskin's Electronics has resumed airing an advertising campaign offering "free" vacation getaways for certain purchases, despite its continuing legal entanglement with the state Attorney General's office over similar ads.
The current television spots are akin to ones that spurred a still-unresolved court case which reached the Maryland Court of Appeals. The only apparent difference is that Luskin's is using a different travel agent, says Assistant Attorney General John H. Nethercut.
He says his office was unaware that the 47-year-old chain planned to launch the latest campaign, which comes amid growing regional competition for Luskin's from such superstores as Best Buy and Circuit City.
"Luskin's did not inform us that the ad was running, nor did our office prescreen it," Nethercut says. "We are reviewing the ads, and will take appropriate action against Luskin's if there is...
