With its location in a heavily populated part of Jefferson County and three strong anchor stores, Bashford Manor Mall needs one thing to again be a major player among area shopping centers: a new look
That's the assessment of the mall's general manager, Dan Huff, who believes an extensive renovation project will bring shoppers and nationally known retailers back to the nearly 30-year-old center at 3600 Bardstown Road.
Work is set to begin later this month on a complete upgrade of Bashford Manor's interior.
At the same time, exterior renovations will be taking place on the mall's northeast facade, which faces Bardstown Road. A new entrance is planned to line up with the mall's main hallway.
First part of project to be completed in November
The interior and front exterior work will cost more than $3 million, Huff said. It is expected to be completed before Thanksgiving and the all-important Christmas shopping season.
Other changes are planned for 2002. Details of the additional changes are not yet available, Huff said, but they could include the development of retail outparcels bordering Bashford Manor Lane. Current plans do not call for the expansion of the existing 561,000-squarefoot shopping center.
Bashford Manor Mall is owned and managed by Rubloff Bashford LLC, a subsidiary of Rockford, Ill.-based Rubloff Development Group Inc. The group purchased Bashford Manor Mail and the surrounding 58 acres along Bardstown Road for $32.5 million in November 1999.
