MAPITI", a new patant search service tool developed by Manning & Napier Information Services (MNIS) is now being demonstrated via the Internet's World Wide Web (WWW). MAPIT, which the company describes as its "patent data mining tool" compares the contents of thousands of patents and automatically produces visualizations of the research results. The MNIS technology behind MAPIT was first developed for government intelligence agencies, and later adapted for use in major corporations and patent offices around the world, according to MNIS. The service is offered as either an outsourced product or for installation on a corporate network. MAPIT applies advanced technology to patent research by which large patent portfolios can be analyzed identify similarities, differences, and relationships. The research results can be visually displayed, highlighting clusters of similar patents or ranking patents according to areas of interest. Specialized interactive viewers provide side-by-side displays of data to support a detailed analysis of possible infringement.
