GREENSBORO - After 14 years at the helm of Marconi Commerce Systems, Bill Korb is stepping down as president and CEO.
Marconi Commerce, formerly known as Gilbarco, is the world's largest manufacturer of gasoline dispensers. Under Korb's leadership, however, the company has undergone a diversification into high technology that has broadened its business significantly.
Korb's retirement will become official Jan. 2, company officials said. Taking over as -acting CEO will be Mike Donovan, CEO of Marconi Systems and Capital, the umbrella group that also includes Marconi Data Systems of Wood Dale, Ill., and Marconi Medical Systems of Cleveland. No timeline has been established for hiring a permanent replacement.
The parent company of the entire group is UK-based Marconi plc. Marconi trades on the London Stock Exchange and Nasdaq under the symbol MONI.
Korb, 60, was not available to comment, but said in a written statement that it had been a pleasure to see the company grow and prosper, thanks largely to Marconi Commerce employees.
