Information for Marines at Work is obtained directly from the listed units. All Marine Corps, world wide, are invited to contribute to this column, either directly or via their advisors or naval attache. Two-way cards received by the 15th appear in subsequent issue. Is your unit listed?
VIETNAM
Three A-4 Skyhawk pilots of VMA-211, MAG-12, have something in common. Maj D. L. Posposil and Capts J. B. McAnally and Eric E. Hastings are from Bozeman, Mont. Each has attended Montana State University and each are married to Bozeman girls. Between the three they have flown more than 500 combat missions from the Chu Lai base.
The 3d MT Bn, (Maj J. F. Lavin) has been supporting the 3d MarDiv since 1965. The unit is currently in direct support of infantry units out of Vandegrift Combat Base, Quang Tri, and Cua Viet on the Gulf of Tonkin.
Marines of the 1st LAAM Bn (LtCol J. W. Drury) in conjunction with MACS-4 (LtCoI E. S. John) recently conducted a FIREX at Danang. Employing the automatic mode exclusively, the battalion fired 15 missiles and recorded 14 hits.
LtCol S. D'Angelo and 1stLt D. D. Jackson of VMFA334, MAG-13, recently flew the squadron's 5,000th combat sortie. The unit arrived at Chu Lai last August and has dropped approximately 10,000 tons of ordnance on enemy targets.
Patients at the U. S. Naval Support Activity Hospital are being entertained by high school students from Danang. The project, promoted by the mayor of Danang, provides periodic entertainment to troops recovering from combat injuries.
SgtMaj F. Violette reported from 4th Bn, 12th Marines and was named sergeant major of 3d MarDiv, replacing SgtMaj J. W. Dailey who assumed duties as Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps on 1 Aug.
Modern-day transportation for hundreds of Vietnamese orphans at Danang's Sacred Heart School and Orphanage was made possible by the 1st LAAM Bn maintenance section (CWO G. Newton, OIC) by spending their spare time for four months repairing a dilapidated weapons carrier and turning it into a smooth running truck.
Hoang Thi Mong Thuy is presently at the Sacred Heart Orphanage, but she is a war orphan who is being adopted by Sgt L. Ticer (Admin Chf, 1st AmTrac Bn) and his wife....
