The Marine Corps is preparing to move forward with its Marine Air- Ground Taskforce Expeditionary Family of Fighting Vehicles (MEFFV) program intended to replace the service's current General Dynamics (GD) M1 Abrams tanks and General Motors of Canada (GM) LAV-25 light armored vehicles following approval last month by the Joint Requirements Board (JRB) and Joint Requirements Panel (JRP), according to a program official.
"Right now we're trying to identify some interim (FY) '02 science and technology funding," Col. Dennis Beal, the program manager for the MEFFV program, told reporters during a break in the Naval- Industry Research and Development Partnership Conference sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association. "The official step forward in terms of funding is the '04 POM (program objective memorandum)."
