COLD SPRING, N.Y. - A Web site operator allegedly conducting unauthorized online sales of Sage accounting software has bitten the dust- sort of.
The site, 1-2-3Accounting.com, which for several months has boldly broadcast that it sells Sage Software's MAS 90 accounting systems at prices far below those charged by authorized Sage resellers, has apparently stopped fulfilling orders. Instead, customer orders and inquiries are being routed to Info-Lynx, of Collierville, Tenn., one of Sage's top-producing authorized resellers. 1-2-3 officials could not be reached for comment.
The 1-2-3 site reportedly solicited products from authorized resellers, which they then sold over the Web site. The site competes with authorized resellers with come-ons such as, "Whether you buy MAS 90 Accounting Software from an authorized reseller or even a Web discounter, you're paying too much," and, "We've got the lowest price for you."
Look for Internet selling to be a topic of discussion at Sage's annual Visions reseller conference, being held May 23 to 27. Sage plans to use the meeting to unveil rules on how resellers should handle sales and implementations to be considered partners "in good standing."
"With the ever-increasing use of the Internet, new selling issues are going to continue to pop up and disappear," said Sage chief operating officer David Butler. "We have to make sure everyone knows they have to take care of the customer."
