Long-distance runners know the secret of endurance: pacing ... combined with a healthy dose of preparation. Maureen E. Prentice, senior vice president for compliance/ audit at Security Federal Savings Bank, Logansport, embodies the runner's spirit of goal-setting, determination and plentiful hard work.
In addition to her considerable bank responsibilities, Prentice serves on the American Bankers Association Compliance School Advisory Board, voicing the needs and concerns of community banks. She also is active with the ABA National Compliance School and the Graduate School of Compliance Risk Management, helping to guide curriculum, select instructors and materials, and serve as faculty.
These ABA ventures - given the hours devoted to travel, meetings and conference calls - claim about a month of Prentice's time each year. But like an athlete, she keeps moving, putting in 50+ hours weekly on the job to fill four roles at Security Federal: compliance officer, loan review officer, board secretary and auditor.
On top of work demands, Prentice devotes time to the Cass County Family YMCA as board member and president. Not only does she support the YMCA through leadership and fundraising, but she practices what the Y preaches. Prentice leads a spin class three mornings a week, runs during her lunch hour and periodically participates in YMCA-sponsored races. Recently she completed her first Mini-Marathon.
Prentice's career itself has been something of an endurance race. She began as a part-time teller more than 20 years ago at the former First National Bank of Logansport. She joined Security Federal Savings Bank as a teller in 1988 and kept shouldering additional responsibilities, eventually earning the title of senior vice president and the distinction of ABA Compliance School Advisory Board member.
