Ending months of speculation, WZPL-FM 99.5 owner Booth American Co. has agreed to sell the station to Indianapolis Business Journal and WTPI-FM 107.9 owner Michael Maurer.
Maurer outbid other contenders, which are said to have included WZPL Station Manager Roger Ingram, a pair of out-of-town bidders and Jeff Smulyan's Emmis Broadcasting Corp., which owns WENS-FM 97.1.
Neither Maurer, who also owns The Indianapolis Commercial and The Indiana Lawyer, nor Booth spokesman Rob Ritter would confirm who the other contenders were or the asking price for WZPL, but speculation leading up to last week's announcement put its value at $10 million to $11 million.
