Mayo Clinic Jacksonville will test an Internet system that monitors the vital signs of patients at their homes.
Patients can have blood pressure, pulse, weight, body temperature and blood oxygen levels monitored through this "house-call" computer system. Doctors also can use it to look in a patient's ears, nose and mouth and listen to the heart and lungs from a distant location.
Mayo plans to inaugurate the concept, which is produced by Cyber-Care (Nasdaq: CYBR), in two retirement communities - including Cypress Village, a 158-bed nursing home near Mayo - and two Northeast Florida developments under construction - including Amelia Park, a 100-acre development in Fernandina Beach.
The names of the other retirement community and development have not been released.
