Taxing Times Call for CPA Advice
CPAs are experts on all financial matters. But when tax time rolls around, the solid, insightful advice of a CPA is invaluable. Members of the profession know this, and the media realizes it as well. Through television programming, radio interviews, and newspaper stories, PICPA members dispensed wise tax advice early and often during the past tax season. Below is a collection of how some members helped the public get through an always difficult tax season.
Numerous members were interviewed on television about income taxes or took part in television-sponsored tax question phone banks. On CBS-3 in Philadelphia, Karen C. Facer-Mee and James J. Newhard were interviewed during a tax phone bank about energy tax credits and the homebuyer's credit. Leon J. Dutkiewicz Jr. spoke about tax credits on the station's morning show to promote the phone bank, and the following members addressed calls coming in to the tax phone bank: Jacquelyn M. Basso, Ralph E. D iodata, Charles P. Elliott, Jennifer A. Feist, Russell T. Hauer, Susan E.S. Howe, Christi LeDonne, and Glen Shinners. All above are Greater Philadelphia Chapter members.
Facer-Mee also appeared on NBC10 in Philadelphia to talk about lastminute tax tips. Newhard addressed tax questions on the Facebook page of Tracy Davidson, the station's consumer reporter.
On Fox-29 in Philadelphia, Dutkiewicz spoke about job-seeking tax deductions. Anna J. Sachs, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, discussed new tax-filing tips and tax provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In a separate tax story, she spoke about filing for an extension. Timothy C. Hubert, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, was interviewed about understanding tax audit triggers and what to do if you owe the IRS money, but can't pay them right away.
For ABC-27 in Harrisburg, Arthur J. Full, South Central Chapter, was interviewed for a story on income tax audit triggers. Joseph M. Periandi, Reading Chapter, spoke about tax tips on WFMZ-TV, Lehigh Valley and Berks County. In the Erie Chapter, Michael S. Neubauer spoke with WJET-TV about choosing a tax preparer, and William G. Finnecy was interviewed on WSEE-TV about last-minute tax tips.
