Michael Shane created an industry that continues to grow unabated when he dared to take on IBM Corp. with one of the first low-end PC-compatibles.
As the founder of Leading Edge Computer Products Inc., Shane became the de facto father of the low-end clone market. Resellers found that while no IT manager may have been fired for buying IBM, some got promoted by opting for the lower-cost Leading Edge model PCs. In fact, in 1986 Leading Edge beat out competitors Compaq Computer Corp. and AT&T Corp....
