Microchip Technology has introduced two one-time programmable devices that support the USB 1.1 lowspeed interface. The PIC16C745 and PIC 16C765 8-bit microcontrollers feature a software detachment mechanism and offer ample processing bandwidth to enable USB functionality and other control functions in a single-chip microcontroller solution. The devices contain 8K x 14 words of program memory and 256 bytes of user RAM. The 28-pin PIC16C745 features 22 I/O ports and a 5-channel 8-bit analog-to-digital converter. The 40-pin PIC16C765 has 33 I/O ports and an 8-channel 8-bit analog-to-digital converter. Both devices contain an on-chip bandgap voltage reference, oscillator mode, brown-out detection, enhanced Capture/Compare/Pulse-widthmodulation, USART interface, one 16-bit timer, two 8-bit timers and a Watchdog timer. Applications include personal computer related systems such as high-end pointing devices, uninterruptible power supplies, joysticks and protocol converters or adapters. Available in PDIP packages, pricing in 1,000 unit quantities is $2.84 each for the PIC16C745 and $3.69 each for the PIC 16C765.
