Microsoft Corp. this week will unveil a feature for its Systems Network Architecture gateway that improves host access over WANs.
The enhancement to Microsoft's SNA Server, called Distributed Gateway Service, lets network managers connect branch-based SNA Servers to centralized SNA Servers via native TCP/IP, Novell Inc. Internetwork Packet Exchange or Banyan Systems Inc. Vines protocols. The capability reduces WAN-bandwidth requirements. SNA Server provides access to mainframe-based SNA applications from LAN-based clients.
