TELECOMWORLDWIRE-18 October 2000-Microsoft licenses ScanSoft's imaging technology (C)1994-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http:// www.m2.com Microsoft Corp and the US digital imaging software provider ScanSoft Inc have teamed up to deliver electronic paper systems to customers worldwide. Under the partnership Microsoft has licensed ScanSoft's image segmentation, compression and viewing technology, which is designed to allow users to scan in documents and share them with colleagues while maintaining the image quality of the original paper document. The alliance is the second between Microsoft and ScanSoft. In 1999 Microsoft licensed ScanSoft's optical character recognition technology for inclusion in Microsoft Office 10, which is currently in beta testing.
