For years, Microsoft addressed many of PowerPoint's shortcomings by hardly addressing them at all. Rather, the company allowed third-party vendors to create plug-ins or enhancements to help PowerPoint do its job. However, with the release of PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and a surprisingly robust plug-in, Producer for PowerPoint 2002, it appears Microsoft is no Longer ignoring its legions of PowerPoint users.
Released during the XP blitz at Comdex Fall 2001 in Las Vegas in November, Producer is a free plug-in, downLoadabLe from Microsoft's Web site, that purports to give users the power to create what the Microsoft folks call "rich-media presentations."
