After receiving no state funding this year, the Missouri Arts Council (MAC) is optimistic that its state funding will be reinstated in fiscal 2005.
Although the $500,000 in funding the state General Assembly has appropriated the Arts Council is paltry coinpared to what the council has received in the recent past, it guarantees MAC will receive federal arts funding again this year.
The National Endowment for the Arts requires state arts organizations receive state funding in order to get grants from the federal government. Last year, NEA waived the requirement for MAC, granting it about $720,000 even though the Arts Council add zero state funding for fiscal 2004.
