MMBC: Building business deals with physicians
Medical buildings are among hospitals' most important capital investments. And, they're among the most common. Nearly one-fifth of the nation's hospitals began work on medical office buildings during 1990, according to a survey by LINC Management Services, Chicago. What's more, interest in such projects will intensify in the near future, experts predict.
That's good news for Mediplex Medical Building Corp. (MMBC), Dallas. Physicians are housed in 95 percent of MMBC's buildings -- although many of its buildings also house numerous ancillary services and outpatient clinics.
Conditions for growth. As the demand for medical buildings grows, so does MMBC. The company will be involved in up to 18 projects during 1991 -- a 50 percent increase over 1990, predicts Al Seeley, the company's president and CEO.
The environment is right for continued growth. "The ever-changing fraud and abuse regulations make it difficult for hospitals to establish a business relationship with their physicians," Seeley says. "But establishing that relationship is paramount to bonding the physician to the hospital and ensuring future hospital revenues. Through joint venturing medical buildings, hospitals can legitimately establish that vital relationship," he says.
