PORTO, Portugal -- For the second season running, MOCAP, Portugal's national shoe exhibition held here last week, was buzzing with buyers from home and abroad.
What's more, the show experienced a boost in attendance of 54 percent, a significant rise compared with June 2000.
According to the show's organizers, the June edition of MOCAP in the past was a much quieter affair than the January show because Portuguese production was centered on heavy winter shoes for men.
However, at this show, it was evident that changes had taken place, making Portugal much more interesting to a varied group of footwear buyers.
According to organizers, the show boasted 175 companies exhibitors -- an increase of 9 percent compared with last year. Also, more women's summer footwear was shown here than ever before.
Reve de Flo, a manufacturer based in Oliveira de Azemeis, Portugal, showed a line of sandals with leather flowers on the uppers, while in the collection at Pedro Moraes, Oliveira de Azemeis, included paisley print Indian-style leather mules and sandals with denim and jean-style metal rivets.
