Hershey-area boosters welcome Tröegs Brewing Co. move
Tröegs Brewing Co. founders Chris and John Trogner weighed many factors before deciding to shift operations to the Hershey area, but the bottom line was, the craft brewery had run out of space.
"If we're going to move, now's the time," Chris Trogner said.
Tröegs announced last month it would relocate from its 30,000-square-foot site at 800 Paxton St. in Harrisburg. The new 90,000-square-foot digs at 200 E. Hersheypark Drive in Deny Township will feature a 5,000-square-foot tasting room and a layout designed around giving tours as well as brewing beer.
Tröegs is leasing the Hersheypark Drive building from Hershey Trust Co. The design, developed with project architect David Maule of Maule and Associates, is 99 percent complete, and the bidding process for remodeling work is underway, Trogner said.
"It'sgoingto be areally neat se tup. You're gonna be able to see everything we do on a daily basis," he said.
Tröegs is not planning to open a restaurant, Trogner said. Business will carryonmuchasitdoesnow, onlyona larger scale - "larger" being a relative thing in the world of beer, he added. Tröegs will brew about 30,000 barrels of beer this year, up from 25,000 last year. By comparison, Yuengling will brew 2 million barrels, and AnheuserBusch upward of 100 million.
Plans are to have the Deny Township brewery up and running by next summer, with the Harrisburg brewery remaining...
