SOUTHAMPTON - A new motel share plan offered by Hampton Resorts and Hospitality seems to, be providing a welcome alternative for Hamptonites weary of pricey share houses.
"It's really taken off very nicely," said David Waksman, co-owner of HRH, which controls the Atlantic, Bentley and Capri motels along County Road 39.
Waksman and partner Mark Smith, who also co-owns the celebrity hangout "Nick & Toni's," launched the motel share program last year. "And this year, (we're pursuing) a higher level of execution," Waksman said.
HRH acquired the three motels two years ago and invested $5 million on interior renovations for the combined 132 rooms.
This season, occupancy has been so strong that Waksman said he has had to turn away as many as 400 people a week.
HRH rooms cost anywhere from $250 to $500 a night on weekends and $180 during the week. But those numbers drop sharply under its share program, which offers quarter, half and full shares that equate...
