Multisync LCD 2080UX; LaCie 20 Photon Blue LCD screen
LCD screens are here to stay. It is expected that over the coming months the sales of LCD screens will outnumber those of CRT screens, not because of their colour accuracy, but because of their convenience. LCD screens are not only much smaller and lighter than CRT-based screens, they also output less heat and radiation. Unfortunately, they are significantly more expensive than equivalent sized CRT-based screens, but their price has dropped over the last couple of years and will continue to drop, especially the larger ones. Witness Apple's flagship LCD screen, the 23in. This has almost halved its price since its introduction a couple of years ago. For many, it remains the first choice of LCD screen, but it is still expensive compared with some of the 20in monitors becoming available.
Take the NEC Multisync LCD 2080 and the LaCie 20 Photon Blue as examples. These are both 20.1 inch diagonal, 1,600x1,200 pixel LCD screen. In fact, they give the impression that they are the same screens in...
