The NEC MultiSync LCD2000 is an engineering marveL; a few years ago, no one would have beLieved you couLd buy a thin, 20.1-inch LCD monitor with native SXGA resoLution and a wide viewing angle for less than $6,000.
UnLike just about any 20-inch CRT monitor, the LCD2000 - which weighs 22 pounds and measures just 8.7 inches deep - doesn't Look out of place on a conferenceroom table. What's more, it did a wonderful job of displaying any data signal I gave it from VGA to UXGA (1,600 x 1,200), which is beyond the unit's recommended input range.
An LCD display that measures up
I evaluated the LCD2000 using the same criteria I use for other Large-screen displays: brightness, contrast and color saturation. After adjusting contrast and brightness to get good image quality, I measured the full-screen white brightness at 88.5 nits with a 9-point ANSI average. (This value is given in nits, or candelas per square meter, rather than lumens because its an emissive display.) By comparison, my Apple CRT monitor puts out just over...
