The North American Electric Reliability Corp. on July 31 notified (NP09-35) FERC that Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has agreed to pay $100,000 to resolve allegations that it violated a mandatory reliability standard related to vegetation management practices (FAC-003).
Also on July 31, NERC notified FERC that Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary MidAmerican Energy Co. had violated (NP09-33) a standard related to generation protection system maintenance and testing programs (PRC-005) and that Ashburnham Municipal Light Plant had violated (NP09-34) a critical infrastructure protection standard (CIP-001). In each of those cases, the relevant regional reliability entity decided to impose a "zero dollar ... financial penalty" on the utility, and NERC concurred with that decision.
