UNIVERSITY PURCHASE. DeVry Inc., a US-based provider of educational services, said Aug. 8 it has acquired the business operations of privately held American University of the Caribbean (AUC). AUCs medical school campus is located in St Maarten, and its administrative offices are located in Coral Gables, Flortida. AUCs total enrollment is approximately 1,000 students. Since 1978, AUC has provided with medical education, and now has more than 4,000 graduates practicing medicine throughout the world. Planned investments include more than $20 million for facility and other improvements," said Daniel Hamburger, DeVry's president and CEO, adding that there is a significant unmet demand in the US for well-trained, licensed physicians.
