ASP opens world's largest' OracLe database deployed on Linux
SMALL-BUSINESS ASP NetLedger Inc. has opened a data center running what executives claimed is the largest Linux deployment of an Oracle Corp. database in the world.
For a few dollars a month, small-business owners and employees receive access to a suite of accounting applications running on a 500-server implementation from VA Linux Systems, said David Durkee, chief information officer at NetLedger, based here.
"This is the scalable architecture that [Oracle Chief Executive] Larry Ellison had in mind," Durkee said. "His vision was to have a highly scalable database that could handle large numbers of concurrent users [using] cheap PCs."
