ELKHART -- Do you ever wonder how an uninjured child is transported safely in an ambulance after an accident where the parent may be injured?
Before the introduction of the new EVS 1800 HiBAC safety seat in September, the child probably sat in an adult-sized seat. Now the child can sit in a seat that is built into an EMT seat and conforms to all federal motor vehicles safety standards.
We started working on this project out of human interest and a potential business venture," said Mike Harmon, division coordinator for EVS, a division of Dygert Seating.
The seat answers the growing concern among legislators, professionals and manufacturers on the proper restraint of uninjured children being transported from the scene of an accident. Conserving space in the vehicle, however, has been an important issue.
"Often, there is a means of transporting injured children, but...
