Central Piedmont Community College is launching an Entrepreneurial Institute to encourage more of its students to start businesses in their chosen fields.
The institute will develop classes on entrepreneurship for undergraduates completing associate's degrees in subjects such as early childhood education, electrical engineering and heating, ventilation and air conditioning, says Mary Vickers-Koch, CPCC dean of business and industry.
About 50 students are expected to participate.
Along with offering coaching and advice, the institute will provide handson experience in drafting business plans and arranging financing, Vickers-Koch says.
"We hope it will be the real thing so when they leave here, they're ready to start" in business for themselves, she says.
