MOST OF KEEFE Bruyette & Woods' analysts are dead. But Michael Corasaniti is trying to ensure that their legacies live on.
As Keefe's new research director, he is responsible for rebuilding the investment boutique's most important division, which lost 22 of 30 employees in the World Trade Center attack. The deceased include David Berry, the research director, and Thomas Theurkauf and Marni Pont O'Doherty, two of its most talented analysts.
"I have an enormous standard to live up to," says Mr. Corasaniti, 36.
His most immediate task is hiring analysts to handle the extensive group of stocks - 325 - that Keefe used to follow. He has brought in five analysts, and hopes to add another 17 in the next six months.
"I probably interview five or six people every single day," says Mr. Corasaniti.
