Despite the rain, a colorful crop of films was on display at Photokina this year, and nearly every manufacturer participated in the harvest. On its home turf Agfa introduced new versions of pro Optima color-negative films and RSX slide films. According to Agfa, its Optima II films (ISO 100, 200, and 400) offer finer grain, thinner film emulsions with less silver, and sharper definition. New color couplers yield improved color accuracy, increased color saturation, and better neutrals when shooting in mixed lighting. The films will be available in 35mm and 120mm formats.
Agfachrome RSX 11 slide films are said to feature improved gray balance, higher color accuracy, and improved shadow detail with richer blacks. Agfa says film pushability has also been improved (for example, RSX II 100 can be pushed to ISO 400 without density and color shifts).
In what Fuji declared its most sweeping update of films ever, all consumerlevel Superia and Nexia colornegative films, as well as Fuji's pro NHGII 800 color-neg film were reportedly improved. Fuji also introduced its new Fujichrome 64T Type II slide film, Fujicolor Press 400 and 800 color- neg films, and its new Instant Color Film Instax. The new Superia (ISO 100, 200, and 400) 35mm films and the new Nexia (ISO 100, 200, and 400) Advanced Photo System films have all been redesigned to include an additional emulsion layer currently found in Fuji's Reala film.
