Detroit's "Big Three" automakers DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. - are the face of that area's economy.
But not necessarily the catalyst, according to John H. Elstner.
"It''s really the 10,000 manufacturers and components makers that drive the Detroit economy," said Elstner, executive director of the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), Maryland's newest technology incubator.
Elstner and Anne Arundel County officials see parallels in the potential of an Annapolis hothouse spurring a new hightech boom for the region. Tapping a kind of big three of homeland security assets the county believes it possesses - the National Security Agency, the large information technology companies with a footprint in the area and the employees that fill these offices daily - CIC is launching with high expectations.
