A local success story," is how many in Elizabeth's Hispanic community refer to Imperial Construction Group. It is a well-grounded statement. In just 15 years, Frank Dominguez has seen his company grow into a multi-million dollar firm and one of the fastest growing Hispanic businesses in the country.
Dominguez was recently named SBA 2001 New Jersey Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration in recognition of his success. His Hispanic heritage is very important to Dominguez, who as a boy left his native Cuba with his father in search of the American dream.
In 1986, a 21-year-old Dominguez started a small electrical contracting business with a $15,000 loan from his father and hired five employees who worked in Dominguez's garage. Times have changed for Imperial, which has completed over 700 projects throughout. the Northeast and now has more than 90 full-time employees including architects, engineers and project managers.
The company outgrew the Dominguez's garage long ago as well as several other locations in its expansion. In 1999, Imperial became its own client and erected a spacious office building in downtown Elizabeth which is now its headquarters.
