Marilyn Tucker Quayle, wife of former Vice President Dan Quayle, last week joined the Indianapolis law firm of Krieg DeVault Alexander & Capehart.
In an interview with IBJ, the 43-year-old Indianapolis native discussed a wide range of topics--from her law practice to the Quayles' return to the "real world" and the role of Hillary Clinton in the new administration.
Quayle, a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Purdue University and the Indiana University School of Law, wouldn't discuss her husband's employment plans. "Ask him," she said, dismissing the question.
Her husband has been discussing a post with the Hudson Institute. Hudson officials say it's likely he will join the Indianapolis-based think tank in some capacity, but his role there hasn't been determined.
The following is an edited interview of Marilyn Quayle's interview with reporter Greg Andrews:
What position are you talking with Krieg DeVault?
Partner. And we've obviously made arrangements for several other opportunities I'm pursuing.
What are these other opportunities?
I've had several offers for corporate boards, and I serve on a high-level commission for the United Nations!, which I'm going to continue doing. I also have a couple of books in the works, and I'll be speaking.
I know you wrote a novel, "Embrace the Serpent," with your sister, Nancy Northcott, a year or so ago. Are you working on another book with her?
We have another one that's halfway done, and I'm rather interested in writing a book on cancer care, which is an area with which I've dealt significantly for the last 17 or 18 years since my mother died.
The novel is in the same vein as the last one: international intrigue, government and politics.
With the other things you are doing, how much time will you commit to your work with the law firm?
I really don't know how much time it will be, but it will be a very significant amount of time. I'm very excited about it.
What area of law will you focus on?
I'll spend most of my time in general corporate work, leaning toward international expansion for corporations, international law and health care.
How did you end up at this firm in particular?
I think this firm blended well with the things I'm interested...
