Amrita Singh Jewelry
Based in New York, Amrita Singh Jewelry offers a full collection of bangles, necklaces, earrings, pendants, rings and sandals that appeal to women 18 to 50 years old. Inspired by Indian art, designer Amrita Singh specializes in bold and exotic sterling silver and gold vermeil over sterling silver pieces, often with semiprecious stones such as amethyst, citrine and rose quartz. Singh is also known for her expansive selection of bangles, which are made in India from materials including wood, metal, clay, wax and resin. The Bangle-Bangle collection comes in an assortment of colors and shapes so that pieces can be worn alone or stacked together.
This season, expect to see new items that have an antique gold or silver finish to emulate a vintage look, such as a sunflower-shaped crystal pendant and sunflower chandelier earring clips. The Bangle-Bangle collection is priced wholesale from $10 to $50 while the semiprecious and sterling silver collection ranges from $15 to $400.
Founded in January 2003, the label has acquired more than 100 specialty boutique and small chain store accounts, including Intermix in Chicago and Calypso. The company was unable to provide actual or projected sales figures at press time.
Susan Hanover Designs
This New York-based jewelry line is primarily made up of necklaces, earrings and bracelets aimed at a core customer base of 20- to 50-year-old women. Designer and company president Susan Hanover crafts gold-filled or gold-plated pieces that incorporate semiprecious stones for a light, weightless look. The designs are "statement pieces and best worn alone with simple attire," she said. Hanover's line is best known for her signature wiring technique, which features large, chunky stone-wrapped bracelets.
For resort, the collection introduces different groupings, such as metallic pearls on sterling silver, and gold and white pearls on silver lariats. Bangles are updated by incorporating shells as a new material. The entire line is priced wholesale from $20 to $80.
Less than two years old, Susan Hanover Designs is found in hundreds of specialty boutiques and better department stores, including Intermix in Chicago and Bloomingdale's. Projected volume for 2007 is $1.5 million.
