April breathed new life into a ghost of Northern Colorado's past when a pair of hotel managers from the Pacific Northwest traded in beachfronts and ocean views for Evans' starry nights and open spaces.
Philip Park and Chang Lee, owners of the Permysaver Hotel in Portland, Ore., and the Country Inn in Colorado Springs, respectively, bought Evans' Travelodge Heritage Inn in April for $2.3 million but are betting a good deal more that the 73room hotel will be worth its gables in gold.
"It's extremely large," said inn manager Ann Park of the grounds - and the restoration process her husband Philip and Lee have undertaken. "There's seven acres of landscape that was grown over. We're redoing the landscaping. The pool was in terrible shape and (inside the motel) we've had the tiles done, but the building itself is in excellent...
