UK indies see much of the action in a new raft of ITV dramas ordered by head of drama Nick Elliott. Doc Martin, from Martin Clunes's company Buffalo Pictures, stars the actor as a grumpy London doctor who moves to the country. Red Productions has picked up an order for Jane Hall's Big Bus Ride, written by At Home with the Braithwaites writer Sally Wainwright, while Kay Mellor's independent Rollem is to make Gifted, about a footballer accused of rape. It is produced by Pippa Cross and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. Granada, too, has picked up ITV commissions with Dirty Filthy Love, a story about a man with Tourette's Syndrome and obsessive compulsive disorder, and with the 6x90-minute crime series Big City, Small World starring Amanda Donohoe as a police detective.
