INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD Barclays Bank has come under renewed attack over the security of its online service after a customer reported that she could re-access her account details without having to use a password. This happens because customers' financial details are stored on the cache, according to a silicon.com report. A spokeswoman for Barclays told silicon.com that the bank was aware that customers' account details were retained on their PCs after logging out, but that all online users are informed of this in writing when they sign up to use the service. Contained in a booklet on how to use the site is an instruction explaining the need for customers to log off and clear the cache after completing their transactions. The bank insisted that its online service remained "safe". Barclays today agreed the terms on which it will acquire one of its rivals, Woolwich, and the bank will be hoping that the acquisition will bring an end to its recent run of bad publicity.
