Lorain County politician Michael Ross knows the finer points of spinning and shaping election campaigns. But the county commissioner's latest venture involves reshaping compact discs.
His manufacturing company, MarketShapeCD Inc., which he started last year, takes familiar round CDs and cuts them into unique shapes and sizes. The Democrat's primary customer so far is Republica J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Ohio Secretary of State.
MarketShapeCD in February filled an order for 3,000 of its "Microbizcards" - CDs the size and shape of business cards that each contain registration forms for incorporating a business and Internet links to Mr. Blackwell's office. It was the third shipment to Mr. Blackwell's office, which has purchased 12,500 of the CDs, Mr. Ross said.
The Microbizcard for Mr. Blackwell's office replaces hundreds of pages of forms and documents that would need to be mailed to businesses in the state, said Carlo LoParo, a spokesman for the Secretary of State. Each day, Mr. Blackwell's office receives 30 to 50 requests for the CDs, Mr. LoParo said.
