NewTek's Video Toaster has traveled light years in performance over the past few years, and the release of version 3 brings even further advancements. Some of the differences between versions 2 and 3 are subtle-many of the improvements tied to the program's speed and versatility will be transparent to users-but others will jump out at you. Every function of the Video Toaster has been tweaked or upgraded slightly. So, with a list I compliled of what VT[3] does better or faster than VT[2], let's look at some of the most significant improvements.
The opening screens look even nicer and more refined than in the previous version. As promised, the programs do load faster, and it is possible to see several versions of the same item simultaneously. For example, each time you click on VT-Vision, you get another monitor, which I found very helpful. If I wanted six monitors on the screen, each with different inputs, I could do it. As I'm not a big fan of keyboard shortcuts, I was pleased to see that version 3's effects can be keyframed to save time.
