Later this month, Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) will formally announce details about the next release of the Ingres relational database management system.
The top priority in Release 2.0 is to boost performance, which will be accomplished partly by adding parallel processing features and partly by introducing to the Unix software features originally developed for mainframe databases. CA also will focus on making the Ingres databases easier to manage in distributed environments.
Users hope to see CA incorporate object-oriented technology in the database as well as added support for creating very large databases .
