[Visited Jul'13] Nonprofit Explorer is a free tool for researching the finances of some 616,000 nonprofit organizations. Recently introduced by ProPublica (CH, Apr'09, 46-4258), an "independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest," it harvests data mostly from tax filings released by the IRS, starting in April 2013.
