Worldwide Computer Products News-3 May 2001-Nortel Networks launches second-generation network SSL accelerator (C)1995-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com Nortel Networks has launched version 2.0 of Integrated Service Director-The Alteon Secure Sockets Layer (iSD-SSL), its data traffic processing device for secure web- based e-commerce transactions. The new accelerator is designed to offload SSL processing, including SSL handshakes, key exchanges and encryption/decryption functions, to enhance server performance, reduce client waiting times and increase the number of client web sessions - both secure and non-secure - that may be managed simultaneously. The latest version also supports cryptographic functions such as encrypted private keys, multiple types of ciphers and different levels of security. In addition iSD-SSL Release 2.0 allows - according to Nortel - customers to process seven times more secure web transactions than with traditional SSL applications or server-based HTTPS implementations.
