Alaska tourism businesses and Gov. Tony Knowles are singing the praises of Northwest Airlines, which has launched twice-weekly flights through September from Tokyo and Minneapolis to Anchorage.
Following an inaugural run into Anchorage May 31, Northwest began flying on Wednesdays and Sundays from Anchorage to Tokyo, while also increasing direct service between Anchorage and Minneapolis.
"The capacity has increased tremendously," said Yoshi Ogawa, president of ITC Travel. "That is why the fares are 40 percent cheaper."
