FARMINGDALE - NovaSync is rolling out software that lets personal digital assistants take some of the paperwork - and the pain - out of health care.
The fledgling firm, based in the SUNY Farmingdale High Technology Incubator, developed a software program for hand-held computers that is helping medical interns make the transition from paper to wireless record-keeping.
The program was tested last year at Staten Island University Hospital and is now going from pilot to full flight, as the hospital provides the system to its intern staff.
"The pilot's over. They made the commitment," John Hill, NovaSync's chief operating officer, said of Staten Island Hospital's decision. "Now we're doing the installation for additional units."
Dr. Regina McGinn, associate director of medicine for the hospital, confirmed that its interns have begun using the hand-held units to cut down on paperwork and ease the flow of information into its computers.
