One of NSA's greatest investments in the future of the accounting profession is its scholarship program. The program is administered by the NSA Scholarship Foundation, an IRS approved 501(c)3 organization funded by the generous support of NSA members, NSA affiliate state organizations and the general public. The Scholarship Foundation annually awards approximately 40 scholarships to college students majoring in accounting at the undergraduate level.
The Foundation awarded its first ten scholarships in 1970 from a base of 241 applications. At that time, recipients received a grant stipend of $200.00. By 1990, the number of applications had increased to more than 1,400 applications with 22 scholarships awarded annually. In response to rising tuition costs, the amount of stipends also increased to $500.00 for students entering their second year of study and $1,000 for students entering their third or fourth year of study.
