Federal investigators say in a new report that the death of Conseco Inc. executive Lawrence Inlow on May 21 at Indianapolis International Airport was a fluke accident.
There was little the company's flight crew could have done to anticipate the scenario that killed the 46-year-old attorney, said Dave Bowling, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board.
Inlow was struck in the head by the rotor blade of a Conseco helicopter that had ferried him and a co-worker from the company's Carmel offices to its private jet, which was to take them to Bismarck, N.D.
"We couldn't find any fault with company procedures or anything," Bowling said of a factual report on the accident made public last week. "We looked at everything: the ramp, tire inflation and strut extension. And everything was pretty normal.
