WHAT'S HOT: Technically, the Oki C7300n is not a laser printer-- it uses four arrays of LEDs instead of a laser beam to draw an image- -but we had several good reasons for putting it at the top of the April 2003 color laser chart. The first is its impressive speed: The C7300n printed text at 16.9 ppm in our tests--3 ppm faster than the average--and it printed graphics at 5.5 ppm, which is quicker than any other printer we've seen lately. Second, the unit's $2179 price tag is extremely reasonable compared with the prices of similarly equipped color office printers. Third, the C7300n produced light but perfectly formed text, and clean and distinct narrow parallel lines. Finally, both its printed and on-screen documentation--including a 500-page manual on the printer hardware and a 230-page manual on network management, both in PDF format--are comprehensive.
